NATURE OF WORK
Fairfield Memorial Hospital is seeking a skilled, detail‑oriented Medical Laboratory Technician or Scientist (MLT/MT/MLS) to join our Laboratory team. This role is essential in delivering accurate, timely diagnostic testing that supports high‑quality patient care across the organization. The
MLT/MT/MLS
performs moderate‑ to high‑complexity testing, processes specimens, and ensures all laboratory procedures meet regulatory, quality, and safety standards. The

may also provide technical guidance, mentoring, and supervisory oversight to laboratory staff. The role collaborates closely with clinical teams, supports daily laboratory operations, and contributes to continuous quality improvement. This position upholds FMH's mission by ensuring reliable laboratory services that directly support patient diagnosis, treatment, and overall care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform specimen processing, laboratory testing, and accurate result reporting across multiple disciplines (e.g., hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunohematology, urinalysis) Ensure compliance with all laboratory procedures, quality control standards, and regulatory guidelines including CLIA requirements Monitor test performance and identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical or quality issues Document quality control, calibration, maintenance, and corrective actions as required Provide consultation and technical support to laboratory staff as needed Participate in proficiency testing and maintain accurate records Support daily laboratory operations including order processing, reporting, and clerical functions Perform phlebotomy as needed across all patient populations Assist in training new employees and students during clinical rotations Maintain competency across all lab areas while supporting specialized disciplines as assigned Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and hazardous material handling guidelines Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure timely and accurate patient care

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician/Technology program; Current certification through a recognized national certifying agency; Meets CLIA (42 CFR 493) requirements for Testing Personnel.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related scientific field.
EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
4+ years of experience in high-complexity testing in at least one specialty area. SKILLS Strong laboratory knowledge with accuracy in performing moderate‑ to high‑complexity testing. Critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities for troubleshooting instrumentation, quality issues, and unexpected results. Knowledge of CLIA standards, quality control requirements, and regulatory compliance. Effective communication and teamwork when collaborating with clinical and laboratory staff. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage workload efficiently. Proficiency with laboratory information systems for order entry, result reporting, and documentation. Commitment to safety protocols including PPE use, aseptic technique, and hazardous‑materials handling.
