Full Job Description Job Title :
Specimen Processor I Responsibilities Introduce and prepare biological specimens for laboratory processing to ensure accurate analysis and testing. Open specimen containers and pour samples into appropriate secondary containers in preparation for testing. Verify that patient demographic information matches the test requisition forms submitted with each specimen. Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the computer system for tracking and documentation. Meet key production metrics and quality measures to support timely and accurate test results. Unpack incoming specimens and route them to the correct staging and processing areas. Pack and ship specimens to designated testing facilities when required. Properly prepare, label, and store excess specimen samples according to laboratory protocols. Identify, resolve, and document issues with problem specimens, following established procedures. Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines. Comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures. Operate automated laboratory instrumentation under supervision when necessary. Work both independently and collaboratively with team members to maintain efficient laboratory operations. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. 0-2 years of work experience; no prior experience required, but 1-2 years is preferred. Comfort working with human biological specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples. Strong data entry experience with accurate and efficient typing skills. Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office. Work Environment This position is based in a high-volume clinical laboratory setting on the second shift, typically from 6:00 PM to 2:30 AM, Monday through Friday, with rotating Saturday shifts every other week. The role requires comfort working late into the evening during the week and the flexibility to work overtime when needed. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wood Dale, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
