Job Description

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our team at Steelyard Analytics, a small company with a friendly and fast-paced work environment. Our laboratory specializes in the analysis of a variety of materials and samples, including phospholipids of plant and animal origins, drug components, formulations, foods, and organic chemicals. As a Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for handling, preparing, storing, and disposing of all samples that enter the laboratory.
Responsibilities:
Receive, register, label and track samples daily according to SOPs, tracking samples in retention areas Communicate with customers to clarify details of orders received in consultation with Study Director(s) Perform routine laboratory experiments and prepare samples using wet chemistry methods for NMR spectroscopic analysis using standard laboratory equipment such as analytical balances, electronic pipettes, rotary evaporators, centrifuges, and orbital shakers Set up and maintain equipment for laboratory experiments Dismantle, clean, and inspect equipment after use Maintain the general cleanliness of the laboratory Work with a full range of chemicals to prepare reagents and solutions for experiments Manage professional sample and waste disposal in compliance with safety protocols Plan, set up and execute laboratory testing according to SOPs and/or directions from senior staff members Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of our 600 MHz Bruker NMR spectrometer with helium-cooled cryoprobe and associated equipment (e.g., liquid nitrogen fills, cleaning filters and condensers, etc.) Maintain daily logs and equipment record books; keep accurate records regarding calibration dates and maintenance dates for instruments and other laboratory equipment Ensure that data is accurately recorded in accordance with SOPs Communicate analytical observations to internal research/scientific staff and share information Comply with safety protocols Provide timely updates to management Perform related tasks as assigned and adhere to written and verbal instructions
Minimum Qualifications:
BS degree in a scientific discipline Legally authorized to work in the US without need for sponsorship Fluent in English (spoken & written) Legible handwriting Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of personal responsibility
