LLC's Research & Development laboratory by preparing and processing material batches, performing testing in accordance with established work instructions and procedures, and accurately documenting results. This role is hands-on and requires strong attention to detail, safe chemical handling, and consistent adherence to lab standards and controlled documentation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Batch Making / Sample Preparation Make batches (trial, pilot, and development batches) by weighing, measuring, mixing, and processing raw materials according to formulation instructions and established procedures. Operate lab-scale mixing and processing equipment (e.g., high-speed dispersers, mixers, balances/scales, ovens, and other laboratory instruments) as required. Label, package, and stage batches and samples for internal evaluation or customer-related trials, maintaining traceability and lot control.
Testing / Evaluation
Test batches based on working procedures (work instructions, standard operating procedures, and test methods), ensuring accuracy and repeatability. Perform routine laboratory tests such as viscosity, pH, density/specific gravity, solids, cure checks, appearance/flow, adhesion, and other evaluations relevant to the product line. Record results in designated formats (controlled forms, spreadsheets, and/or laboratory systems) and communicate findings to R D staff.
Documentation / Compliance
Follow controlled documents, work instructions, safety rules, and applicable quality requirements (ISO/IATF practices as applicable). Maintain clean and organized work areas (5S), ensure proper labeling, and manage sample retention and disposal per guidelines. Support calibration checks, equipment verification, and inventory of lab consumables and raw materials.
Support / Continuous
Improvement Assist chemists and engineers with experiments, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. Participate in trials and cross-functional support activities with Quality, Production, EHS, and Purchasing as needed. Safety Responsibilities Follow

LLC and EHS requirements, including proper use of PPE and safe handling of chemicals. Understand SDS requirements and comply with chemical storage, labeling, spill response, and waste disposal procedures. Immediately report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, or procedural deviations. Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED required. 1+ years in a laboratory, manufacturing, chemical handling, or technical role preferred (coatings/adhesives experience a plus). Ability to accurately follow written work instructions, formulas, and test methods. Basic computer skills (data entry, spreadsheets, email). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, and perform hands-on mixing/testing tasks. Preferred Associate degree or technical coursework in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Technology, or related field. Experience with batch documentation, controlled forms, ISO/IATF environments, or lab quality practices. Forklift experience (if applicable to lab material staging process). Work Environment Laboratory and pilot-scale environment with exposure to chemicals, odors, and noise; PPE required. May require occasional overtime or schedule flexibility based on project needs.
