JOB SUMMARY

The Distillate Lab Technician is responsible for conducting analytical and quality control tests on distillate products, with overlap into solventless rosin production, and for ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role involves preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, documenting test results, and collaborating with production teams to maintain and improve product quality. The technician also assists with biomass processing, troubleshooting, maintains laboratory cleanliness, follows safety protocols, and supports the cultivation team as needed. Strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and a commitment to quality standards are essential for success in this role. This is a hands-on role, and candidates must be comfortable working in laboratory, agricultural, and production environments while balancing administrative and operational responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct quality testing — perform routine laboratory tests on distillate samples to assess purity, potency, and compliance with regulatory and industry standards. Produce distillate — consistently manufacture high-quality distillate and rosin products for commercial sale and authorized distribution, including developing new product types and innovations. Ensure compliance and safety — follow SOPs, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe and compliant lab environment. Support troubleshooting and process optimization — identify potential quality issues, support root-cause analysis, and collaborate with production teams to improve product consistency. Document and report findings — record test results, maintain detailed lab logs, and communicate findings to production and quality teams for process improvements. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment — use and calibrate instruments such as gas chromatographs, spectrometers, and other analytical tools to ensure accurate results. Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization — keep workspaces, equipment, and testing areas clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies. Support day-to-day cultivation activities as needed, such as trimming, potting, and watering. Perform other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree — or equivalent practical experience. 1+ year of experience in manufacturing or laboratory environments within the food or pharmaceutical industries preferred. Experience with ethanol distillate extraction and/or solventless extraction preferred.

KEY SKILLS

Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Familiarity with control systems for equipment and packaging, with a focus on product safety and quality. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport across all levels. High level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Split between a standard laboratory environment and time spent in agricultural and production settings such as greenhouses, grow rooms, processing facilities, or packaging areas. Involves interacting with employees in areas with varying temperatures, humidity, lighting, and ventilation, as well as exposure to strong odors, plant material, and agricultural equipment noise. Potential exposure to allergens, including pollen and plant material.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Prolonged periods of sitting and standing. Regular walking, standing, and occasional bending or kneeling in operational areas. Ability to occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
