A Medical Laboratory Technician helps with the performance of laboratory tests in toxicology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology laboratories, which provide information for medical patient diagnosis and treatment. Sets up, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment, makes observations, and calculates and records results; receives, types, tests, and records blood bank inventories.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
: Performs routine and specialized assignments and demonstrates proficiency and understanding of the procedures in the areas of a clinical laboratory.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School graduate or equivalent; completion of Phlebotomy certification program preferred.
Experience:
One (1) - two (2) year experience as a laboratory assistant; phlebotomy skills including pediatric blood draws required . License(s)/Certification(s)
Required:
CPR Certification Skills & Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position: Ability to communicate effectively with the patients, health center staff, and the public. Ability to precisely follow written and verbal instructions Excellent organizational skills Ability to operate a computer/lab information system Good oral and written communication skills.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions:
Performs equipment maintenance and temperature checks as needed. Performs accession samples, performs low and medium complexity laboratory testing as needed. Prepares buffers and reagents. Prepares samples for send-out to reference laboratory. Assists the Medical Technologist in operating various types of laboratory equipment to perform tests in chemistry, bacteriology, urine analysis, and hematology. Maintains laboratory logs of tests as required and in accordance with established policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
