Laboratory Technician (Materials Testing)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support sample preparation, testing, and reporting activities in accordance with established test methods and standard operating procedures. This role involves both hands-on mechanical work and precise data recording, with opportunities to contribute to technical support and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and analyze samples following published test methods and company/client SOPs Fabricate test specimens using hand tools and power tools Perform destructive and non-destructive physical testing on a variety of materials Accurately record and document test results using handwritten datasheets, computer-generated reports, and electronic systems Compile and prepare clear, organized test reports Operate, maintain, and assist in validation of laboratory equipment and instruments Support investigation and resolution of client inquiries and complaints Provide limited technical support to internal teams (marketing, sales, customer service) and external clients as needed Coordinate with laboratory staff on sample receiving, logging, preparation, and testing workflows Fabricate fixtures or equipment required for testing processes Ensure testing is conducted in accordance with applicable industry standards

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline preferred Prior laboratory experience is a plus

Skills & Competencies:

Familiarity with hand tools and power tools; strong mechanical aptitude Understanding of laboratory quality systems and operations Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) Strong computer skills, including data entry, file management, and documentation Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively within a team Willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and testing methods Experience in a machine shop or tool room environment is a plus Knowledge of automation or PLC programming is desirable Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills High level of integrity, customer focus, and a strong work ethic

Work Environment:

This position involves a mix of laboratory testing, equipment handling, and data analysis in a structured lab setting.
