Lab Technician - DNA Job Description This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced genomics laboratory performing DNA sample quality control, nucleic acid extractions, quantitative PCR, and next-generation sequencing workflows. You will support high-throughput production activities, ensure accurate and timely sequencing results, and contribute to the expansion of clinical and regulatory-focused services. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented lab professional who enjoys hands-on bench work, working with advanced DNA analyzers, and collaborating closely with a focused team. Responsibilities Independently carry out nucleic acid extractions from a variety of sample types, ensuring high-quality and consistent yields. Perform quantitative PCR (qPCR) set-up, run assays, and analyze data according to established protocols. Prepare libraries for high-throughput next-generation sequencing, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Operate and carry out DNA sequencing on next-generation DNA analyzers and related instrumentation. Perform routine maintenance of DNA analyzers and associated laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance. Monitor inventory levels and replenish consumable sequencing supplies and reagents as needed. Conduct sample quality control (QC) work, including assessment of DNA quality and quantity. Accurately document experimental procedures, observations, and results in appropriate records and systems. Communicate with customers by phone and email in a friendly, professional manner to provide updates and address questions related to services. Use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to manage data, generate reports, and support lab operations. Follow SOPs and the guidance of supervisors to ensure compliance with laboratory standards and regulatory expectations. Contribute as an effective team player, collaborating with colleagues to meet production goals and project timelines. Support continuous improvement of laboratory processes by following and helping to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a closely related biological discipline. At least 1 year of biological laboratory experience. Strong manual pipetting skills, with the ability to perform precise and consistent pipetting for high-throughput workflows. Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction and DNA handling. Ability to perform quantitative PCR (qPCR) set-up and basic data analysis. Familiarity with DNA sequencing workflows, particularly next-generation sequencing processes. Knowledge of standard laboratory processes, including sample handling, labeling, and record-keeping. Ability to follow detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory protocols. Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members and customers. Proficiency with common computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. High attention to detail and accuracy in all laboratory tasks and documentation. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-oriented laboratory environment. Willingness and ability to work the required second shift hours. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a regulatory environment such as CLIA/CAP, GLP, GMP, and/or GCP is highly desirable. Background in genomics, molecular biology, biology, microbiology, or related life sciences. Experience as a lab technician, lab assistant, or similar laboratory role involving data entry and lab inventory management. Familiarity with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and workflows. Ability to contribute to the development and refinement of SOPs and laboratory processes. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a focused team. Demonstrated reliability, organization, and commitment to meeting deadlines in a production setting. Work Environment You will work in a leading global genomics service environment that specializes in DNA sequencing, gene synthesis, molecular biology, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and GLP regulatory services. The laboratory supports customers who rely on rapid, cost-effective results delivered through specialized expertise and scalable services. The lab operates in a fast-paced, production-focused setting with approximately 70 people in the broader lab group and about 7 people on the second shift team, including a shift lead. The culture emphasizes hard work, focus, and collaboration, with a serious but occasionally laid-back atmosphere where everyone is committed to getting the job done. This position is on the second shift, typically from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with a one-hour lunch break. New hires receive about one month of training on the first shift (approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), including an initial week of orientation, introductions, and shadowing trainers, followed by weeks of hands-on implementation in the lab. The role involves working with next-generation DNA analyzers and related equipment in a modern laboratory facility that supports both research and clinical-oriented work as the business grows and expands into clinical services.
