Purpose:
To assist the pathology department in processing specimen by accessioning into the pathology computer system, maintaining inventory and monitoring limited technical aspects. This individual will interact with other laboratory departments and other medical staff to meet the needs of the patient. Essential Responsibilities Processing/Accessioning of all samples submitted to pathology for testing. Prints out labels and cassettes for assistance of grossing process. Labels frozen section and other slides as needed. Verifies proper specimen labeling as per protocol. Verifies specimen are collected in appropriate container/fixative. Recognizes inappropriate collection practices and brings to the attention of the supervisor. Maintains inventory for pathology technical processes. Performs stain changes and other minor technical checks as per protocol at VBMC and satellite locations. Dispose of specimen according to proper SOP's. Responsible for transportation of reagents, supplies and specimen to and/or from satellite locations. Orders reference testing through Care Evolve or similar computer system. Completes all mandated competencies for position. Participates in orientation/training of new personnel. Complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Contributes to work-related activities during down-time. Offers plans/suggestions for department improvement. Arrives at work on time and is available until the end of the shift. Follows established laboratory safety and universal precautions at all times. Education and Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma required
Prefer:
Associates' degree with biology background
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
Excellent Customer Service Skills Strong Computer & Writing Skills Ability to
