Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist (Lab Tech) is directly responsible to the Laboratory Leadership Team for performing all laboratory procedures, quality control and maintenance in all sections of the clinical laboratory; solving instrument and procedure issues; making quality control decisions; recognizing abnormal versus normal results; instructing non-laboratory personnel on methods of specimen collection; obtaining blood specimens by proper methods; bringing problems with the above to the attention of laboratory leadership; consulting with providers and/or supervisors on problems with clinical specimens or results; maintaining stock of supply and reagents; assisting laboratory leadership and other laboratory personnel in evaluating new procedures; recommending instrumentation changes.
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science from an accredited program. ASCP or AMT Board eligible• One year experience working as an MT/MLS preferred. The person fulfilling this position with the above qualifications must meet the CLIA requirements for Technical Supervisor, and function as Testing Personnel. Individuals without
ASCP/AMT
certification qualify as MLS I. Individuals with
ASCP/AMT
certification qualify as
MLS II. OR
Associate degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program. ASCP or AMT Board eligible• One year experience working as an MLT preferred. The person fulfilling this position with the above qualifications must meet the CLIA requirements for General Supervisor, and function as Testing Personnel. Individuals without
ASCP/AMT
certification qualify as MLT I. Individuals with
ASCP/AMT
certification qualify as MLT II.
