Biology Lab Technician

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Laboratory Technician Mount Vernon Nazarene University exists to shape lives through educating the whole person and cultivating Christ-likeness for lifelong learning and service. The University seeks a full-time, 9-month, Laboratory Technician for its department of Biology and Physical Sciences on the Mount Vernon main campus. The position reports to the Biology and Physical Sciences Department Chair and is available beginning August, upon appointment of a successful candidate. A full complement of benefits is provided including a health care plan, retirement plan, and tuition assistance (for self and dependents). The candidate will also receive generous holidays, vacation, and sick time earned on an accrual basis.

Responsibilities for this position include:

Assisting faculty with the preparation of laboratories for biology students Providing direct laboratory assistance to students taking biology courses Grading student laboratory reports and quizzes Proctoring quizzes and exams for biology courses Providing student help sessions for biology courses Media and culture preparation for microbiology Maintenance of Microbiology stocks Geranium stocks DNA fingerprinting stocks General biology instrument maintenance Assisting in coordinating the work of student laboratory assistants Other duties as assigned Expectations for the successful candidate: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related discipline General laboratory skills and understanding of and commitment to laboratory safety Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel) Experience working with undergraduate students Demonstrated attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy Ability to communicate in a positive and productive manner with faculty and students Ability to lift 25 lbs To be considered for this position, please email a resume to mvnu.recruiting@mvnu.edu and complete the application, found at: http://mvnu.edu/jobs/application .
