$12.81 Job Description This position is located in the Latent Evidence Unit within the Criminalistic Services Division at the Forensic Science Center in Edmond, Oklahoma. This position is limited to 999-hours a year and 29 hours or less a week. Basic Purpose Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for supporting laboratory operations, performing maintenance functions and completing non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of professional staff. Major Work Duties Maintaining current list of cases pending, calling on cases, doing name/record searches, scanning lift cards and importing images to the lab management system, maintaining property room inventory Cleaning lab spaces, making and restocking supplies/reagents Performing weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly safety checks and audits Miscellaneous administrative duties as requested (ordering supplies, surplus items, maintaining the latent evidence unit vehicle, etc.) Typical Functions Performs routine laboratory procedures such as preparation of media and basic preparation of slides and smears. Conducts non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of professional staff. Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinations. Opens, separates, numbers and arranges specimens for laboratory examination and trace results. Maintains simple laboratory records and inventory for supplies and reagents. Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance records. Maintains a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures. Level Descriptor Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others. This is the basic level where incumbents perform routine repetitive tasks of a non-technical nature involving general housekeeping and maintenance operations in a laboratory. Duties include cleaning work areas and equipment, storing supplies and distributing a variety of items throughout the laboratory. Incumbents will be closely supervised while the work is being performed. Education and Experience Education and Experience requirements at this level are none. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to operate laboratory equipment. Special Requirements Some positions at the Department of Veterans Affairs may require current certification in good standing as a Phlebotomist for Level II and III. Some positions at the Department of Corrections may require current certification in good standing as a Phlebotomist for Level II and III. Successful applicants must be willing to submit to a drug screen, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation (commissioned positions only), and a thorough background investigation.
