Longwood Gardens is seeking a part-time Laboratory Technician to support the daily operations of Longwood's plant tissue culture and soil laboratories. This hands-on role involves technical lab tasks and general lab maintenance, helping ensure smooth and efficient lab workflows.
Responsibilities include:
Preparing plant tissue culture media according to established protocols Cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining lab equipment and instruments Assisting with data entry and organization related to soil, water, and tissue testing Managing and maintaining laboratory supply inventories and placing orders as needed Maintaining up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for lab chemicals and equipment Collaborating with staff, interns, and students The ideal candidate will possess: A high school diploma or equivalent required Prior experience in a plant tissue culture lab and/or working with orchid germplasm in vitro preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet-based software is essential A valid driver's license A willingness to operate an electric cart on Longwood's grounds A strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team Longwood Gardens is committed to nurturing a diverse and inclusive environment that celebrates the complexities and differences of all living things.
