Lab Technician Job Description The Lab Technician supports laboratory development work by performing technical tasks under supervision in a research and development environment. This role focuses on preparing and testing formulations, managing samples and raw materials, and maintaining laboratory equipment and documentation in alignment with safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Prepare laboratory batches of prototype and final formulations, including liquids, emulsions, and surfactant-based formulas, for clinical and consumer studies, product stability testing, and customer review using approved procedures after successful training. Maintain, calibrate, and verify proper functioning of laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, viscometers, and related instruments. Independently manage daily workload and timelines while ensuring accurate and complete documentation in notebooks, logbooks, and other records in accordance with laboratory procedures and corporate safety and quality standards. Manage and organize safety documentation, including maintaining and referencing raw material Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) in compliance with laboratory safety requirements. Participate in investigations of out-of-specification test results and stability issues, and review findings with laboratory management. Coordinate sample management activities, including labeling, tracking, and storage of stability and validation samples. Order and track raw materials and finished goods needed for laboratory work, ensuring timely availability for ongoing projects. Evaluate and analyze competitive products, document observations and test results, and report findings to the appropriate stakeholders. Assist in cleaning laboratory glassware using a dishwasher and other approved methods to maintain cleanliness and readiness of lab materials. Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment by following all corporate health and safety protocols and housekeeping standards. Support environmental stability and validation work by preparing, monitoring, and documenting samples according to defined procedures. Perform basic wet chemistry techniques, including titrations and pH measurements, as part of routine and non-routine testing. Essential Skills Understanding of laboratory safety requirements, including working safely with laboratory chemicals and using the MSDS system. General understanding of chemical test methods and chemical instrumentation. Basic wet chemistry skills, including titration and pH measurement. Ability to handle, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, and viscometers. Experience with chemistry laboratory work gained in high school or college. Ability to manage time independently and prioritize multiple tasks in a laboratory setting. Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation in notebooks, logbooks, and other records. Capability to follow written procedures and standard operating procedures for compounding and testing. High school diploma or a 2-year associate degree in a technical or science field, preferably in Chemistry or Biology. Basic familiarity with laboratory glassware handling and cleaning procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related technical field is preferred. Prior experience in a laboratory environment such as Research and Development, Quality Assurance, or Quality Control is desirable. Experience working with personal care, hair care, skin care, or oral care products is an advantage. Exposure to research and development processes, including formulation and stability testing, is beneficial. Experience in managing raw materials and sample inventory within a laboratory environment is helpful. Familiarity with evaluating and benchmarking competitive products is a plus. Comfort working in a team-based environment and communicating findings to laboratory management. Work Environment This role is based in a laboratory environment focused on research, development, and testing of formulations, including liquids, emulsions, and surfactant-based products. The Lab Technician works with a variety of laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, viscometers, and dishwashers for glassware cleaning, as well as standard chemical instrumentation and basic wet chemistry tools. The position involves regular handling of laboratory chemicals and raw materials, with strict adherence to corporate health and safety protocols and the MSDS system. The work requires maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory space, including routine cleaning of glassware and work areas. The schedule typically follows standard laboratory hours, with independent time management expected to meet testing, batching, and stability timelines. Attire is standard laboratory dress, including appropriate protective equipment such as lab coats, safety glasses, and other personal protective equipment as required by safety procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mainland, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
