A Medical Laboratory Technician helps with the performance of laboratory tests in toxicology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology laboratories, which provide information for medical patient diagnosis and treatment. Sets up, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment, makes observations, and calculates and records results; receives, types, tests, and records blood bank inventories.
Required Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Medical Lab Tech (Generalist) to perform accurate and timely laboratory testing on blood and other body-fluid specimens. The position requires experience across multiple clinical laboratory departments, with blood bank and microbiology experience preferred . Key Responsibilities Perform manual and automated laboratory testing according to established procedures. Receive, identify, process, and document patient specimens accurately. Review, verify, and release laboratory results while following delta-check and quality-control requirements. Repeat or troubleshoot testing when results are questionable or inconsistent. Perform and document quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment. Monitor reagents, supplies, and inventory to ensure adequate availability. Follow all laboratory and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance. Assist with specimen collection while following strict patient-identification procedures. Support training of technical staff when requested. Participate in quality-improvement initiatives and implementation of new laboratory procedures, equipment, and methodologies. Communicate effectively with patients, medical staff, supervisors, and coworkers. Perform other laboratory-related duties as assigned.
Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience . Blood bank and microbiology experience preferred.
Certification:
Current MT or MLS certification through ASCP, AMT, NCCLS, or another recognized certifying organization . Any required state license/certification must be active and current . Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures and testing practices. Proficiency with manual and automated laboratory testing. Strong specimen handling, identification, and documentation skills. Ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment and testing procedures. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to patient safety. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Knowledge of laboratory safety, infection control, quality assurance, and regulatory standards.
