Learn more about the research at https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/su-lab/ The Su Lab is a new lab that will official open in July 2026 in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB). The department is home to many interdisciplinary labs and provides a rich environment for career development within the biomedical sciences that will further be complemented by training and mentoring within the Su Lab. We are seeking a self-motivated and responsible research technician who will assist in launching the lab. The successful candidate will receive hands-on training from the principal investigator and other lab members to manage the mouse colony, perform routine experiments, train new personnel, and will have the opportunity to work on collaborative research projects within the lab and thus play an integral role in daily research activities. Responsibilities
  • We seek a highly motivated and organized individual that will successfully contribute to the following responsibilities in a team-oriented environment: Lab management and organization (50% effort) Standard mouse colony maintenance: tagging/tailing, PCR genotyping, and husbandry.
Place orders for the lab, correspond with vendors, coordinate equipment purchases and maintenance, coordinate lab safety protocols, autoclave. Research (40% effort) Work in collaboration with other lab members and the principal investigator to perform and collect data using the following routine techniques: Animal dissection and perfusion. Cryosection. Immunostaining. Scanner and confocal imaging. Training (10% effort) Train new members, including postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates, in the techniques noted above and provide general lab orientation. Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and 1 year of experience. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of mouse genetics. Experience with common molecular biology techniques such as PCR and gel electrophoresis. Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in handling mice, including colony management and husbandry. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Experience with microscopy and basic data analysis. Flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities as the lab grows. Commitment to a minimum of one year in the position.
