Responsible for chemical assaying of various precious metal alloys, including nuclear grade silver-indium-cadmium alloys after being qualified to do so. Also, responsible for sample preparations, analytical testing, quality control, safety & compliance, and laboratory support.

Essential Functions:

Sample Preparation:

Receive, label, prepare, and log incoming samples for analysis. Prepare samples for analysis using standardized methods (e.g., dilution, extraction, filtration). Dry, roll, and weigh samples following standardized procedures. Ensure proper storage and handling of samples to prevent contamination or degradation. Maintain proper chain-of-custody and sample tracking through Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

Analytical Testing:

Perform fire assay for gold, silver, platinum group metals (PGMs), and other precious metals. Conduct wet chemical methods (e.g., titration, gravimetric analysis). Operate basic laboratory equipment such as Operate instrumental equipment (ICP- metal content analysis. Accurately record and report data in lab notebooks or electronic systems. Perform routine laboratory tests according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Quality Control:

Follow strict QA/QC protocols and perform routine checks with certified reference materials. Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments as required. Identify and report any analytical or equipment issues to the Lab Supervisor or QA Manager. Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and other regulatory standards as required.

Safety & Compliance:

Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Comply with environmental, health, and safety standards. Handle hazardous materials and reagents in accordance with safety data sheets (SDS) and lab protocols. Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials and chemical waste. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the laboratory workspace.

Laboratory Support:

Assist in general lab housekeeping and maintenance, including cleaning, sweeping, glassware washing, and/or any additional tasks necessary for laboratory upkeep. Support inventory tracking for reagents, crucibles, and consumables. Participate in ongoing training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Metallurgy, or a related science preferred.

Experience:

1-3 years of laboratory experience preferred (metal assay, mining, or analytical chemistry lab). Experience with fire assay or instrumental analysis is a strong asset.

Skills & Knowledge:

Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and measurement tools. Good math skills and attention to detail. Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) precisely. Basic computer skills for data entry and report generation.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Stand for extended periods. Ability to perform skillful, precise, and coordinated movements with your hands. Work with high-temperature equipment (e.g., furnaces, hotplates) and hazardous materials with appropriate PPE.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday 6:30 am to 3 pm.
