Job Title:
Sample Prep Technician Job Description The Sample Prep Technician prepares samples for analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients, and environmental samples, following established microbiological techniques and approved methodologies in a microbiology testing laboratory. Responsibilities Prepare samples for microbiological and chemistry analysis according to established laboratory procedures and standard operating protocols. Apply aseptic techniques consistently to prevent contamination and ensure the integrity of all samples. Maintain laboratory media and reagents, including preparation, labeling, storage, and monitoring of expiration dates. Perform cleaning and sanitation of the work area, equipment, and glassware to uphold laboratory hygiene and safety standards. Conduct quality control (QC) monitoring by recording incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, and running media controls to verify test reliability. Perform plating and related microbiological procedures accurately and efficiently. Follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and compliance with laboratory requirements. Support general laboratory operations as needed to help maintain an organized and efficient testing environment. Essential Skills Up to 12 months of laboratory experience; school-based laboratory experience is acceptable. Experience or coursework in the sciences, such as biology or related fields. Demonstrated ability to use aseptic technique during sample handling and preparation. Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow specific directions and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Familiarity with basic microbiology and chemistry laboratory practices. Ability to perform routine laboratory tasks including sample preparation, plating, and media handling. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a microbiology or food testing laboratory environment is beneficial. Exposure to laboratory support activities such as maintaining supplies, cleaning glassware, and assisting with QC checks. Interest in developing laboratory skills and growing within a food safety or microbiology testing setting. Ability to work collaboratively in a laboratory team and communicate clearly about test procedures and results. Work Environment This role is based in a microbiology testing laboratory focused on analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients, and environmental samples. The work involves regular handling of laboratory media, reagents, glassware, incubators, and other standard microbiology equipment while following strict aseptic and sanitation practices. The scheduled hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., providing a consistent afternoon and evening shift. The environment emphasizes accuracy, safety, and adherence to SOPs, and offers opportunities for advancement within the laboratory setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Green Bay, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
