Job Description

Reports to: Manager Position Goals The Lab Tech at Patients Emergency Room and Hospital plays a critical part as a member of the professional laboratory technical team. The Lab Tech is responsible for all laboratory services, including performance, reporting, and interpreting laboratory examinations, proficiency testing, quality control, instrument maintenance and validation, and other functions toward the attainment of these goals.
Position Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Physician and Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Tech at Patients Emergency Room and Hospital will be responsible for, but not limited to: 1. Performs department-specific specimen management functions including: specimen transport, tracking, retrieval, storage and disposal. Verify patient identification and/or specimen acceptability criteria. 2. Ensuring the departments day to day responsibilities are in accordance to the manufacturer's recommendations, Joint Commissions requirements, and
CLIA/COLA
requirements 3. Complies with all Federal, State and Local regulatory requirements related to health care delivery without violation of HIPAA. Complies with Network health and safety policies, procedures, and practices. 4. Preform Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Quarterly QC and document as described in QC Policy. 5. Transcribes data that has been previously recorded and reviewed by certified personnel or produced automatically by an instrument or computer generated. 6. Assists with monitoring the department pending and overdue lists, which includes searching, locating, following up and filing appropriate documentation. 7. Cleans, organizes and maintains work area, glassware and laboratory equipment (e.g., refrigerators, freezers and supply cabinets, as needed). 8. Performs other departmental tasks such as filing, archiving, reports, requisitions and other documentation. Responds to telephone inquiries. 9. Assists with supply monitoring, inventory, and storage to ensure adequate supply and maintain stocking needs. 10. Communicates information and/or concerns to appropriate individuals within the department and across shifts. 11. Maintains competencies as required to perform section specific duties and maintains industry awareness for new developments and/or changes in policies and procedures. Reads written and electronic communications, postings and protocols. 12. Maintains a high level of customer service at all times, while recognizing and initiating service recovery with professionalism and courtesy. 13. Calibrate all laboratory instruments, where applicable, as described in the laboratory Policy and Procedures Manual 14. Maintain all laboratory instruments as indicated by the manufacturers. In the event of instrument failure, follow the manufacturer's troubleshooting procedures 15. Maintain all laboratory records and documentation as described in the laboratory Policy and Procedures and have all records and documentation readily available for CLIA Inspectors, Technical Consultant, or Laboratory Manager if needed. 16. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Customer service experience; demonstrated ability in customer service practice related to direct patient care in a high volume, high stress environment Critical thinking skills; ability to work autonomously and make efficient use of time and resources Ability to support and demonstrate company mission, and perform as a team member and leader Current driver's license with no restrictions Ability to work effectively with patients, staff and physicians Flexibility to meet scheduling demands of department Demonstrated competency of Physical Assessment within 90 days, as evaluated by Supervision/Hospitality Manager Exposure to infectious clinical specimens on a regular basis, so adherence to sterilization and infection control procedures is required
Required Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED Preferred Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in medical technology, chemistry, physical or biological sciences 1 year hospital setting experience Knowledge of hospital laboratory practices, including infection control requirements, chemical and biological hazards Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies and standards

Requires full range of body motion Eye-hand coordination Standing and walking for extended periods Pushing and pulling Climbing (ascending and descending) Bending/ Stooping Using arm, leg and back muscles for extended periods Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing greater than 50 pounds Requires corrected vision and hearing to within normal range Requires working under stressful conditions Working irregular hours Working with hazardous chemicals Potential for cuts and bruises Requires some exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids Must be able to handle patient emergencies and other unusual incidents
