JOB TITLE
Laboratory Analyst
REPORTS TO
Environmental Services Managers
JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for performing assigned biological and chemical analyses of drinking water, wastewater, and surface water samples submitted to the Water Quality Laboratory and to calculate and report results of those analyses in support of the various operations of the Environmental Services Division (ESD).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform water quality analyses under the direct supervision of the ESD Managers Keep accurate, legible records of data generated Must be capable of communicating and relating professionally Prepare reagents and standards according to standard operating procedures Prepare glassware and any other apparatus necessary to perform analyses Calculate and post analytical results and enter data into the ESD Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in accordance with standard operating procedures Interpret analytical results and report any questionable data to the ESD Managers or the QA Officer Operate and maintain applicable laboratory equipment and assist with troubleshooting Participate in quality assurance and safety programs as required Assist in receiving samples submitted to the laboratory for analyses Perform any other duties assigned by the ESD Managers
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred Knowledge of field and laboratory procedures and microbiological principles and techniques for the analysis of water and wastewater samples is highly desirable Must be able to make unbiased observations and interpretations and to keep an accurate record of all data and analysis results Must be capable and willing to perform assigned task without supervision and work unusual or flexible hours Must have a valid Driver's License and a good driving record Knowledge of wastewater treatment operations is beneficial
