Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic team as an Equine Floater, where your versatility and passion for animal care will make a meaningful impact. The Floater / Laboratory Assistant serves as a cross-trained support role within Salado Equine Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to help maintain efficient hospital operations by providing assistance wherever needed throughout the day. This individual functions as an additional set of hands across multiple departments, helping prevent workflow interruptions, supporting veterinarians and technicians, and ensuring patients receive timely care. The ideal candidate is adaptable, proactive, and willing to learn a broad range of skills rather than specializing in a single department. No two days are the same. One day may involve assisting in surgery, while the next may include helping with lameness evaluations, supporting reproduction services, processing laboratory samples, or assisting ambulatory veterinarians. Responsibilities The Floater / Laboratory Assistant serves as a backup to the laboratory department and should maintain a working knowledge of laboratory procedures, including: Running in-house CBC and chemistry testing Processing and preparing samples Running PRP preparations Spinning and processing blood samples Uploading laboratory paperwork and results Verifying laboratory charges and documentation Responsibilities may vary daily based on hospital needs. Advanced laboratory experience is not required, but the ability to learn laboratory protocols and maintain accuracy is essential.

Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment Ability to safely handle and restrain horses Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Pay:
$16.50 - $17.75 per hour
