Job Description

The MLS/MLT provides laboratory support services for the hospital including but not limited to inpatient, peri-op, and emergency room by collecting, processing, and transporting specimens in a timely and accurate manner. This role supports patient care by assisting with point-of-care testing, specimen handling, and clerical tasks related to laboratory operations while maintaining a safe, professional, and patient-centered environment. High school diploma or equivalent required Completion of a phlebotomy and medical laboratory training program with a Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree Previous experience in a hospital, laboratory, or emergency department setting preferred Current certification as
MLT/MLS, ASCP
preferred Knowledge of specimen collection techniques, basic laboratory procedures, and infection control practices 1.Collects, labels, processes, and transports laboratory specimens in accordance with hospital and laboratory policy. 2. Assists with venipuncture, capillary collection, and other specimen collection procedures as assigned and within scope of practice. 3. Performs point-of-care testing and documents results according to established protocols. 4. Ensures proper handling, storage, and delivery of specimens to the appropriate laboratory area in a timely manner. 5. Verifies patient identification and specimen integrity prior to collection and processing. 6. Maintains accurate records and documentation related to specimen collection, testing, and transport. 7. Communicates effectively with nursing staff, providers, laboratory personnel, and other members of the healthcare team. 8. Maintains supplies, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and ready state. 9. Follows infection prevention, safety, and quality control procedures at all times. 10. Responds to urgent laboratory needs and supports emergency department workflow during high-volume or high-acuity situations. 11. Assists with clerical duties and other related tasks as needed to support department operations. 12. Maintains competency including proficiency testing, performing and reviewing quality control. 13. Perform required maintenance in a timely manner. 14. Active participation in maintaining laboratory inventory. 15. Perform calibration, calibration verification as required. 16. Participate in quality assurance. 17. Behave and dress in a professional and courteous manner consistent with the facilities Standards of Behavior. 18. Perform other duties as assigned.
