Job Description

LPN Triage Nurse 5000 Park Street North, Saint Petersburg, FL 33709 $25 an hour - Full-time $25 an hour -
Full-time Position Summary:
The LPN Triage Nurse will serve as the liaison between the physician, care team and the patient. Responsible for providing safe, competent, and quality clinical care to the patients of Comprehensive Hematology Oncology. The Employee must have a current State of Florida nursing license.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Answers phone calls from patients, physicians, hospitals, and home health agencies, using nursing assessment skills to determine the nature of each call, its urgency, how to resolve the question/problem and to whom to direct the call.
  • Keep daily log of incoming calls and chart decision made regarding the calls.
  • Document in patient's chart to accompany message for nurses and doctor.
  • Discuss with physician and/or nurse practitioner the steps necessary to ensure proper patient care.
  • Discuss with the physician any abnormal labs or tests so that appropriate action regarding further orders can be carried out and charted, if necessary.
  • Responsible for hospice and home health agency questions regarding patients and documenting the physician's decision regarding the request.
  • Contact emergency room when a patient is directed there, give explanation, diagnosis, and a phone number where physician can be contacted.
  • Handle prescription refill requests according to CHO procedure.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient computer skills and phone skills.
  • Must be able to work independently. Education and Experience
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Active Florida LPN license required.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.
  • At least 1 year of experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital required.
  • 30 hour IV certification course OR completion of 30 hour IV certification course within 90 days of employment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to remain seated in a stationary position for prolonged periods.
  • No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of about 20 lbs. of force (e.g., picking up and computer / laptops) may be required.
  • Good manual dexterity required to use common office equipment (e.g., computers, laptop, and mobile devices).
Work Schedule Requirements:
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
