Job Description
Position Summary Under general direction, protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. Prevents illness and injury. Alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment. Advocates for patients and their families. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care. Position Responsibilities Unit Specific Position Responsibilities Demonstrate understanding and proficiency of the Avasys telesitter solution software. If LPN has completed a board-approved intravenous therapy course and submits proof of completion, the LPN may work under expanded scope of practice following the guidelines per the Iowa Board of Nursing's Scope of Service Train as a Monitor Technician to watch heart rhythms for patients on cardiac monitoring. Addition of IV solutions without adding medications to established peripheral intravenous sites Regulation of the rate of nonmedicated intravenous solutions to established peripheral intravenous sites Administration of maintenance doses of analgesics via the patient-controlled analgesia pump set at a lock-out interval to established peripheral intravenous sites Discontinuation of peripheral intravenous therapy Administration of prefilled heparin or saline syringe flush, prepacked by the manufacturer or premixed and labeled by a registered pharmacist or registered nurse, to an established peripheral lock, in a licensed hospital setting Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education): Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing. Graduation from a school of nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. POSC training within first 90 days of hire for all night shift staff. Complete LPN Expanded IV Therapy Course after first year of hire.
