Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
A clinic LPN's job role includes providing basic patient care, such as taking vital signs, assisting with examinations and procedures, administering medications and immunizations, and collecting specimens, working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff. This role requires strong communication, clinical judgment, and the ability to follow through with provider orders. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as floating to different halls and KIDMED is expected as directed by the supervisor. The role also involves important administrative and clerical tasks like documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, managing medication refills, and maintaining a clean and organized clinic environment.
Direct patient care:
Perform basic duties like taking and recording vital signs, assisting with patient movement, and providing comfort.
Assisting providers:
Help physicians and nurse practitioners during exams, treatments, and procedures.
Medication administration:
Administer medications and immunizations as ordered by a provider and assist with medication refills.
Specimen collection:
Collect and prepare specimens, including performing phlebotomy and routine laboratory procedures like Hemoglobin and lead screening.
Wound care:
Apply and change dressings as needed.
Medical equipment:
Use and maintain equipment like suction machines and perform quality control on equipment like defibrillators.
Administrative and clerical duties:
Supply and inventory management: Monitor and restock medical supplies and maintain inventory, including checking expiration dates on vaccines and medications.
Record keeping:
Handle administrative tasks like filing and completing routine forms.
Other responsibilities Clinic maintenance:
Keep exam rooms clean and stocked, and ensure equipment is sanitized according to policy.
Training:
May be involved in orienting and training new LPNs or other staff in basic nursing techniques.
Professional development:
Attend required meetings and complete in-service training.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Training:
Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing required. Current Louisiana LPN license CPR (BLS) Certification Required (Or willingness to obtain)
Work Experience:
Previous clinical experience in a clinic or outpatient setting preferred. Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills. Willingness to float and adapt to multiple departments or halls
Mental & Physical Requirements:
Ability to tolerate mental and emotional distress as an anticipated aspect of the position. May require working under stressful conditions. Requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Some bending, stretching, lifting, and stooping may be required. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment. Requires a normal range of hearing and vision, and the ability to communicate with office personnel, patients, and the community.
