Job Description

The Position NVS Strategic Solutions is hiring multiple Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) for correctional healthcare positions at State Correctional Institution Albion, a Pennsylvania Department of Corrections facility located in Albion, PA. With three openings available across day (1st Shift) and afternoon/evening (2nd Shift) schedules, this is an excellent opportunity for LPNs seeking consistent hours, competitive compensation, and meaningful clinical work in a structured healthcare environment. The role offers competitive hourly compensation, a predictable shift schedule, and ongoing engagement. Responsibilities Provide skilled nursing care to incarcerated patients in accordance with PA Department of Corrections healthcare protocols and PA LPN scope of practice Administer medications (oral, topical, injectable) per physician orders and document accurately Conduct sick call assessments for inmates reporting medical concerns during overnight hours Monitor patients with chronic conditions (diabetes, hypertension, cardiac, respiratory, infectious disease) Perform wound care, dressing changes, and routine treatments Collect specimens (blood draws, urine samples, cultures) as ordered Conduct intake medical screenings for newly admitted inmates as needed Respond to medical emergencies throughout the facility, including injuries, behavioral health crises, and acute medical events Provide first-line emergency care and coordinate transfer to higher level of care when indicated Communicate with on-call providers and corrections officers during emergencies Document all emergency interventions thoroughly and timely Maintain accurate, timely, legible documentation in the facility's medical record system Comply with all PA DOC healthcare policies, procedures, and security protocols Follow infection control standards, HIPAA, and confidentiality requirements Complete shift handoff reports for incoming staff Required Qualifications Active, unencumbered Pennsylvania Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing Graduate of an accredited LPN/LVN program (state-approved practical nursing program) Current
BLS / CPR
certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross Minimum 1 year of LPN experience in any clinical setting (correctional, hospital, long-term care, skilled nursing facility) Clean criminal background — required for PA DOC facility clearance (PATCH check, fingerprinting) Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical assessment Ability to complete PA DOC orientation and security training prior to first shift (typically 1-2 days) Reliable transportation to SCI Waymart (rural location; limited public transit) Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship Preferred Qualifications Prior correctional healthcare experience — PA DOC, county jail, federal BOP, or other state DOC system Prior institutional nursing experience — state hospital, secure treatment unit, or long-term care setting Overnight shift experience — history of consistent 3rd shift work without performance issues IV certification — valued though not required for this position EHR proficiency — comfortable with electronic medical record documentation Experience with chronic disease management — diabetes, hypertension, HIV, Hepatitis C management common in correctional populations About NVS NVS Strategic Solutions, Inc. is a Tampa, Florida-based federal contracting firm and Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB / EDWOSB / SDB / WBE) supporting federal, state, and local agency staffing requirements nationwide.
