Position Summary
Provide basic health services and care to students on the assigned campus under the direction of the school nurse. Assist with implementing campus health procedures, maintaining student health records, administering medications as directed, and supporting a safe and healthy learning environment. Promote student wellness and preventive health practices through daily health support and communication with staff and parents.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
Valid Texas license (LVN) from the Texas Board of Nursing.
Current automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates.
One (1) year of experience in a health-related position.
Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the candidate.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with school-age children.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects.
Ability to implement policies and procedures.
Knowledge of basic first aid.
Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
Provide direct care using professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), and established school health protocols. Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
Administer medication to students according to board policy and district procedures.
Carry out mandatory screening programs, collect data, and complete required reports as directed.
Distribute information to faculty or staff on health-related topics as needed and as directed by the RN.
Collaborate with campus principal, school counselor, teachers, parents, food service, and other staff regarding the health needs of the general population and those students with identified health conditions as directed by the supervising RN.
Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee (ARD) meeting of students with identifiable health needs if the RN is unable and collaborate with appropriate staff and RN regarding implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items.
Provide guidance to unlicensed assistive personnel or other school staff on health-related tasks as directed by the RN.
Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, and individual student treatment records.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate, confidential health records on all students.
Notify parents of accidents or illnesses. Secure emergency medical care for students as needed.

Maintain current vocational nursing skills and knowledge in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act and Texas Board of Nursing requirements, including certification for required screenings and Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR/AED).
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
Daily attendance at work and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
Report potential health and safety hazards to the principal.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Maintain confidentiality.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct the work of assigned student health clinic aide(s).
