The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) performs duties under direction of a clinical supervisor (RN/Physician/APRN) and works administratively under the Director of Nursing, to assist in examination and treatment of individuals served in the designated Mental Health Centers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Participation in and assisting the physicians during doctors clinic, providing professional, complex treatment and rehabilitation. Provides required laboratory monitoring and medication education classes for consumers. Administers medications, immunizations, draws blood, provides treatments, and observes patients for unusual symptoms and reactions. Provides professional nursing expertise to center staff as needed. Preferred Qualifications:
Two years experience working in a hospital or healthcare agency with individuals with mental illness. Must have current drivers license and be insurable under Center insurance. Must pass and maintain all Center-mandated trainings. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; of health care laws and regulations; of medical diagnoses and procedures; of accepted medical treatment programs; and of community health and nursing care principles, practices, and procedures. Ability to provide patient care, to prepare and maintain records, to explain public health laws, and to communicate effectively. Ability to read and comprehend correspondence, memos, reports, medical information, physicians orders and prescription labels. Ability to count, add and subtract. Knowledge of fractions and calculate medication doses. Ability to write memos, letters, staffing summary reports and medical information. Ability to relate verbal instructions, communicate in a courteous and effective fashion with co-workers, consumers and families, agencies and the public. Display a customer service orientation; at all times treating customers as equals and partners. Skilled in the use of general office equipment and network computers and applicable software, such as: word processing, database, spreadsheet and office management software (Microsoft Office).
