Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team in Newport News, Virginia. This position supports individuals experiencing acute behavioral health crises in a fast-paced, non-hospital community-based setting. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary clinical team to provide short-term assessment, stabilization, and care coordination for individuals in need of immediate behavioral health support.

This role requires a nurse who is calm under pressure, skilled in de-escalation, and committed to delivering dignified, person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct nursing assessments and monitor vital signs for individuals presenting in behavioral health crisis Administer and accurately document medications under the supervision of an RN or prescribing provider Implement crisis stabilization and de-escalation interventions in accordance with individualized care plans Provide acute psychiatric evaluation support and assist with intensive short-term treatment Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems Coordinate care transitions and facilitate referrals to appropriate levels of care Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including social workers, behavioral health technicians, and prescribers Adhere to all applicable Virginia state regulations, DBHDS licensing standards, and facility policies Operate effectively in a 24/7 environment including nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule
QualificationsRequired:
Active, unrestricted Virginia LPN license in good standing Current CPR/BLS certification Valid Virginia driver's license Knowledge of illness, treatment modalities, and medication management Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills Ability to work rotating shifts including evenings, nights, and weekends Must successfully pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check
Preferred:
1-2 years of experience in a psychiatric, behavioral health, crisis stabilization, or emergency setting Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) documentation Experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders Knowledge of Virginia DBHDS regulations and community-based crisis servicesPhysical RequirementsThe physical demands described below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position.
