00 AMN Healthcare is partnering with a local school district in Newport News, Virginia, to hire a compassionate and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide one-to-one nursing support for a student with specialized healthcare needs. The LPN will accompany the student during transportation to and from school, provide direct nursing care throughout the school day, and help ensure the student's safety, health, and access to educational programming. Essential Responsibilities Provide continuous 1:1 nursing care to an assigned student throughout the school day. Accompany the student on the school bus to and from school and monitor health status during transportation. Implement physician orders, individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), emergency care plans (ECPs), and other medical protocols. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed. Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and overall health status. Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and activate emergency procedures when necessary. Support activities of daily living, including feeding, mobility, positioning, toileting, and personal care when required. Maintain accurate, timely documentation of nursing services and student health records. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, school personnel, transportation staff, and healthcare providers regarding the student's health needs. Ensure all medical supplies and equipment are available, functioning, and transported as necessary. Follow HIPAA, FERPA, district policies, and nursing practice standards to maintain confidentiality and student safety. Participate in team meetings and collaborate with educational staff to support student success.
Required Qualifications Licensed Practical Nurse, School References:
1 Reference in entire work history Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program. Active Virginia LPN license in good standing. Current CPR/BLS certification. Minimum one year of nursing experience. Ability to safely administer medications and perform skilled nursing procedures as required by the student's care plan. Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills. Successful completion of all required background checks and school district onboarding requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, transfer, position, and assist students as needed. Ability to accompany a student on school transportation daily. Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working in a school, pediatric, home health, or special education setting. Experience supporting students with complex medical needs, including: Seizure disorders Feeding tubes (G-tube) Tracheostomy care Diabetes management Mobility impairments Medication administration Experience providing transportation nursing services.
