JOB SUMMARY
The Emergency Department Technician functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The ED Tech is responsible for implementing appropriate aspects of the plan of care and maintaining a safe environment for rendering effective patient care. Duties will include obtaining and documenting a full set of vital signs, assisting with transportation needs, collecting urine, sputum, and stool specimens, answering call lights, assisting with organizing supplies, restocking rooms, cleaning and changing linen on stretchers, insertion of saline locks, drawing blood, splinting of extremities, assisting during a code blue, cleaning and dressing minor wounds, and applying ice to affected areas. The ED Tech may perform other duties, as assigned by the RN and within their scope of practice.
DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE
The Emergency Department is a Level III facility according to the guidelines of the Accreditation Manual for Hospitals. The 14 bed unit is open 24 hours a day with at least one physician on duty at all times and a roster of on-call physicians and specialists available within thirty minutes. Registered nurses staff the department. All nurses are ACLS certified. The patient population includes patients of all ages, and care provided ranges from definitive treatment of non-urgent, urgent and emergent medical and surgical conditions to stabilization and transport of the critically ill or injured. Birthing Center nursing staff are available for consultation or to assist in the care of neonates, infants and obstetrical patients. Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High School Graduate Licensed Practical Nurse
EXPERIENCE/SKILL SETS
2 or more years of EMS experience preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
(S): Current Healthcare CPR Certification required. Valid National Registry-AEMT Certification & VT AEMT License preferred Valid Vermont State
LPN AMLS
preferred Post hire requirement: Successful Completion of BMH ED Tech/ CPI Orientation within 6 months from date of hire.
