Job Description

Burned out on impossible floor ratios, endless charting, and hospital politics? Who I Am & The Environment I'm a professional in my early 40s living in a private condo on Madison's Eastside. I have a physical disability (Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type II). My mind is 100% sharp, but my muscles are weak. I need someone to be my physical hands to help me run my life. My home is a quiet, pet-friendly (2 cats & a small dog) space with dedicated parking. Trade the high-acuity chaos for a predictable, 1-on-1 role. If you're exhausted by admissions, discharges, and rigid management, this is the exact antidote to the hospital floor. No passive-aggressive charge nurses, no endless paperwork, and no corporate dress codes. What the Job Actually Looks Like You get to use your clinical skills without the burnout. Your day-to-day blends the clinical care you're used to—managing my G-tube, running respiratory equipment, and handling specific physical positioning—with keeping my life running smoothly. You'll also help with meals, drive my minivan when we go out, and handle light cleaning, laundry, and meal prep. I'll train you on the exact mechanics of my body so you know exactly what to do.
The Pay Starting Wage:
$30/hr for LPNs | $45/hr for RNs.
Incentives:
Earn an automatic $0.50/hr raise every month you work your scheduled shifts for a year. This brings RNs to $51/hr and LPNs to $36/hr.
Only Apply If:
You agree there's a difference between a hospital and a home. Some hospital rules just don't apply here. My specific instructions will always override generic medical conventions. You strongly believe in patient rights and autonomy. I give direct, real-time instructions on how I want things done. I need someone who leaves their ego at the door and doesn't get defensive when I correct them. You're comfortable with a balance of high and low activity. This job has bursts of high activity and stretches of lower activity. Instead of needing constant adrenaline, downtime here just means helping me send emails or hanging out. You're absolutely dependable. My ability to get out of bed and live my life depends entirely on my staff's reliability. Shifts & Schedule Part-time role (ideally 2 to 3 shifts a week). Steady 8 or 12-hour shifts. Morning shifts start at 5:00 AM. Overnight shifts end at 5:00 AM.
Priority:
I heavily prioritize candidates who can work overnights or weekends. Next Steps Here's the exact hiring process:
Let's Chat:
We'll have a quick video call to cover the basics and see if it's a good fit.
Come Check Out My Home:
I'll show you around. If we're both feeling good, we'll submit your state payroll paperwork.
Shadow Shift:
Come for a brief, unpaid shadow shift to watch my current staff show you the essentials.
Trial Shifts:
Once your paperwork and background check clear, we'll do a few paid trial shifts with my friends or family around to support. To apply, click "Apply Now". I review applications personally and will be in touch shortly.
Pay:
$30.00 - $51.00 per hour Expected hours: 16.0 - 32.0 per week
Benefits:
Flexible schedule Application Question(s): Do you prefer roles where you're expected to take charge and make independent decisions, or roles where you're expected to execute highly specific step-by-step instructions? Tell me about a time at a previous job when you had absolutely nothing to do for an hour. Exactly how did you spend that time? Describe a specific time at work or in your personal life when your schedule or plan was disrupted at the last minute. How did you react in that moment, and what did you do next? List any weekly commitments you currently have (classes, personal commitments, jobs, childcare, etc.) including days and times. Be specific. Also list what shifts you can do. In your own words, what is the most important factor in successfully assisting an adult with a physical disability in their own home?
