Mama Hen's Massage & Wellness is a growing, locally loved studio in the heart of downtown Wauchula. Founded by Lorena "Rena" Stoddard, we are known for warm, personal care — the kind of place where clients are treated like family and leave feeling truly tended to. We offer therapeutic massage, facials, head spa treatments, and other esthetic services in a calm, welcoming space. Our team is expanding, and we are looking for a licensed therapist who wants to do excellent work without carrying the weight of running a side business. This is an employee role. It is not a booth rental, not a 1099 contract, and not a "build your own book and keep a percentage" arrangement. You will be on Mama Hen's payroll as a W-2 employee. Already have your own clientele? Let's talk. If you bring an established book of clients, we will negotiate a deal that fairly compensates you for what you bring to the table. Already offering a similar service? It does not have to be massage or esthetics. If you already offer a related service that would fit with our current line — and you want to join the Mama Hen's team — reach out. We will sit down and see what we can work out.
WHY EMPLOYEE
—
NOT CONTRACTOR
Most massage and spa openings in our area are booth rentals or 1099 contractor roles. Those arrangements look flexible on paper and turn into a second job: shopping for supplies, chasing no-shows, tracking inventory, marketing yourself, and sending estimated tax payments four times a year. As a Mama Hen's employee, you focus on clients. The studio handles booking, marketing, product purchasing, and the business side. Team members do share a few house duties — notifying us when a product is empty, and helping with laundry. ✓ Basic room supplies are provided — The studio stocks the basics: linens, lotion, facial products, and other essential room supplies. You do not buy those or run an inventory system. You do help by telling us when something is empty or running low so we can reorder. You are welcome to add decor and other non-essential items at your own expense, as long as you get management approval first. ✓ Scheduling is handled for you — Clients book through our system. You are not building a private book from scratch, juggling a personal calendar, or chasing confirmations on your own time. ✓ Taxes stay simple — Federal and state withholdings come out of each paycheck. You receive a W-2 at year-end. No quarterly estimated taxes, no self-employment tax on the full amount, and no scrambling in April to reconstruct a year's worth of receipts. ✓ No booth rent or room fees — You do not pay to work here. There is no weekly rent, no percentage-of-sales "rent," and no surprise deductions for using the space. ✓ Equipment and rooms are provided — Treatment rooms, tables, stools, hot towel setup, and studio equipment are ready when you arrive. You are not hauling a table or furnishing a room. ✓ Clients come to the studio — Mama Hen's already has a following in Hardee County. You are joining an established practice, not starting a practice inside someone else's walls. ✓ Payroll, not invoices — You are paid on a regular employee schedule. You do not invoice the business or wait on 1099 paperwork. Pay is an hourly-and-commission hybrid, so a slow week is lighter — but it is not $0. ✓ Coverage and protection — As an employee you are covered under the studio's workers' compensation and related employer protections. You are not left to carry every risk on a personal policy. ✓ A real team — You work alongside other licensed professionals in a shared, supportive environment — not isolated in a rented room competing for the same walk-ins.
In short:
you get to be a therapist, not a small-business owner who also happens to give massages.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Provide skilled, customized massage sessions (Swedish, deep tissue, and other modalities you are trained in).
If dual-licensed:
perform esthetic services such as facials, head spa treatments, and other services offered by the studio. Create a calm, professional experience from greeting through checkout. Meet the Mama Hen's standard of customer service our clients have come to love. Sessions are reviewed so that standard stays consistent. Bring your own ideas and professional opinions. We listen, and you will have room to make your service your own while holding that standard. Keep treatment rooms tidy between clients and follow studio sanitation standards. Let the studio know when a basic supply is empty or running low so we can reorder. You do not place or pay for those orders. Decor and other non-essential items are optional and at your expense, with management approval. Help with laundry. Everyone on the team does laundry — no exceptions. Document sessions as required and communicate client needs with the team. Help make marketing materials when asked — short videos, photos, and other content that shows the studio and your work. Represent the studio at occasional community events when scheduled (fair booths, local markets, and similar).
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required Current, active Florida Massage Therapist license (LMT) in good standing. Professional, reliable, and kind — the kind of person clients ask for by name. Strong communication and the ability to work as part of a small team. Willingness to follow studio protocols for sanitation, documentation, and client care. Availability that can support studio hours (weekdays and some Saturdays).
Strongly preferred Dual licensure:
Florida Massage Therapist and Florida Facial Specialist / Esthetician. Bilingual in Spanish and English. Experience with facials, head spa, or related esthetic services. Comfort with a mix of therapeutic and relaxation work. Local to Wauchula, Hardee County, or a nearby community.
WHAT WE OFFER W-2
employment with straightforward payroll. Hourly-and-commission hybrid pay. Busy weeks pay more. Slow weeks pay less — but you still earn. A slow week is not a $0 week. A furnished room with basic supplies stocked — no booth rent. The studio buys the essentials; you flag what is empty. Decor and extras are welcome at your expense with management approval. An existing client base and a studio that already handles booking and marketing. A warm, family-style culture where people look after each other — including shared house duties like laundry. Your voice matters. We review the work to protect our standard of care, and we listen to the ideas that help you make your service your own. A path that can grow. For the right people, this role is intended to become a partnership down the road, with company-wide profit sharing planned to roll out over the next few years. Specific hours will be tailored to the right person — full-time or part-time will be considered. Pay structure details will be discussed with qualified applicants.
