Job Description

Licensed Massage Therapist | Join the Luna Wellness Collective Independent Contractor | Part-Time with Room to Grow | Portland, Oregon About Luna Wellness Luna Wellness is a women-centered wellness practice in Northeast Portland supporting clients through the many transitions of life—from fertility and pregnancy to postpartum recovery, hormonal changes, perimenopause, menopause, stress, pain, and everyday wellness. Our work is rooted in thoughtful bodywork, nervous-system support, and care that helps clients feel safe, heard, and connected to their bodies. As Luna evolves, we are building a collaborative collective of independent practitioners who want the freedom to develop their own work while benefiting from the community, referrals, infrastructure, and support of an established practice. You can build something of your own without having to build it alone. About You We are looking for a licensed massage therapist who is excited about women's wellness and wants to grow a meaningful practice within the Luna community. Because we serve many prenatal and postpartum clients, experience or interest in pregnancy massage, postpartum recovery, C-section and scar support, abdominal work, and nervous-system regulation is especially valuable. Our clients also seek massage for: Chronic and acute pain Stress, overwhelm, and nervous-system dysregulation Headaches and muscular tension Injury recovery and mobility Therapeutic and medical massage Relaxation and ongoing wellness Reconnection with the body during periods of change You do not need to specialize in all of these areas. We would love for you to bring your own training, interests, and approach to Luna. We are especially interested in practitioners who understand that effective massage can be both therapeutic and nurturing—and who know how to meet each client with curiosity rather than applying the same session to every body. Build Your Practice Within Luna This is an independent-contractor opportunity beginning with a part-time caseload and room to expand as your practice and client base grow. We are looking for someone who wants to be an active part of a collaborative practice—not simply arrive, complete appointments, and leave. That does not mean giving up your independence. You will maintain your professional judgment, develop your own specialties, build relationships with your clients, and help shape the kind of massage practice you want to have. Depending on your interests, you will have opportunities to: Develop specialty massage services or treatment plans Create packages or programs for prenatal, postpartum, or nervous-system support Contribute educational content related to massage and body awareness Collaborate with Luna's acupuncturists Participate in workshops, retreats, classes, or community events Build relationships with local birth workers and healthcare providers Develop your own professional voice and recognizable practice within Luna Whether Luna becomes your long-term professional home or helps you build toward something of your own, we want your time here to support your growth. What Success Looks Like Here You build strong, lasting relationships with clients and fellow practitioners. Clients feel listened to, respected, and comfortable in your care. They return because your work supports their goals and refer others because they trust the experience you provide. You take responsibility for your practice, schedule, documentation, rebooking, and client relationships while also recognizing that you are part of a shared environment. You are open to collaboration and understand when another modality or provider may better support a client's needs. Most importantly, you care about the full client experience—not simply completing the massage. Your Practice and Client Care As an independently licensed massage therapist, you will be responsible for providing massage and related services within your training, professional scope, and Oregon licensing requirements.
This may include:
Conducting thoughtful client intake and assessments Creating individualized massage sessions based on each client's needs Providing massage and other modalities within your training and scope Educating clients about treatment recommendations and self-care when appropriate Recommending an appropriate treatment frequency without using pressure-based sales Following up with clients when clinically appropriate Referring clients to other providers when beneficial Completing documentation required for insurance billing, when applicable Maintaining professional boundaries and trauma-aware communication Keeping the treatment room clean, organized, and welcoming Managing the natural flow of your client relationships, including rebooking and continuity of care Collaboration and Practice Growth We believe clients are more likely to connect with your work when they understand who you are, what you care about, and what makes your approach different. You will have opportunities to collaborate with Luna on educational content, newsletters, social media, promotions, community outreach, workshops, and events. This is not about doing marketing work for Luna. Your involvement should help clients discover and understand your individual practice. Luna can help open the door by providing visibility, referrals, and an established community. You will be responsible for building trust, retaining clients, and developing your practice once they arrive. We Are Looking For Someone who has: Current Oregon massage therapy license Current professional liability insurance Strong massage assessment and treatment-planning skills Ability to complete accurate and timely SOAP notes Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Dependability and thoughtful schedule management Ability to practice independently while sharing space respectfully Commitment to professional boundaries, informed consent, and client comfort Interest in developing a consistent and sustainable client base Willingness to collaborate with other wellness practitioners Comfort with electronic charting Comfort with insurance documentation or willingness to learn, if participating in insurance billing Experience or additional training in prenatal massage, postpartum care, abdominal work, C-section and scar support, abdominal trauma-aware massage, medical massage, myofascial work, craniosacral therapy, or nervous-system-focused bodywork is welcomed but not required. You will thrive if you have Above all, we are looking for someone who is warm, reliable, collaborative, curious, and excited to build something. What Luna Provides Joining Luna offers many of the benefits of an established practice without requiring you to build every piece of the infrastructure yourself. Depending on the final arrangement, Luna may provide: An established wellness brand and existing client community New-client introductions and internal cross-referrals A furnished and welcoming treatment space Website presence and an individual practitioner profile Scheduling and electronic charting through Jane Payment-processing and insurance-billing support, when applicable Collaborative marketing and social-media support Laundry and linen service Basic massage supplies Utilities and shared clinic amenities Opportunities for community and provider outreach Individual support around practice and business goals Practitioner roundtables for collaboration and problem-solving Opportunities to create specialty services, packages, workshops, and events A professional community without the full overhead of opening a standalone clinic The financial arrangement will include a percentage-based structure and monthly minimum, determined according to the practitioner's experience, availability, existing clientele, and the support included in the arrangement. The Bigger Picture Luna is becoming more than a collection of treatment rooms. We are building a smaller, intentional collective where practitioners maintain their independence while developing real relationships with one another. Our long-term vision is for Luna to become the place women turn to for nervous-system regulation, body-centered care, and support through life's transitions. If you are looking for a place where you can practice your craft, develop your own professional identity, collaborate with other providers, and grow without carrying the entire burden of running a clinic alone, we would love to meet you.
