In-person | Fairbanks, AK Job Summary Steese Immediate Care is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant (MA) to join our urgent care team in Fairbanks, Alaska. This role is designed for a clinically confident MA who is comfortable with patient intake, procedures, diagnostics, and lab workflows, and who values teamwork, accountability, and patient-centered care. The ideal candidate brings prior experience, demonstrates strong clinical judgment within MA scope, and can prove competency across core skills while adapting to Steese-specific workflows and standards. We combine walk-in and appointment-based care with in-house diagnostics, including EKGs, X-rays, and point-of-care laboratory testing.

What You'll Do Patient Intake & Clinical Assessment Independently perform full patient intake, including: Vital signs Medication reconciliation Allergy and medical history review Chief complaint documentation Use the Athena EHR to review patient history, document care, and prepare charts Support efficient clinic flow in a fast-paced urgent care environment Clinical & Procedural Support Work directly with providers during exams and procedures Confidently assist with: Suture placement and removal Wound care, irrigation, and dressing changes Minor procedures and treatments Prepare and manage procedure trays, supplies, and room setup Assist with injections and medications under provider orders and state law Lab, Diagnostics & Hands-On Medicine Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection independently Prepare, centrifuge, and process samples for in-house and send-out testing Run and document point-of-care diagnostic testing, including chemistry and rapid assays Operate and maintain clinic lab equipment, including analyzers and centrifuges Accurately document lab results and workflows in the electronic health record Understand how diagnostic data informs real-time clinical decision making Infection Control & Clinical Systems Maintain high standards of infection control and medical/surgical asepsis Clean, sterilize, and organize instruments and equipment Manage biohazard materials and sharps safely and correctly Contribute to a clean, efficient, and professional clinical environment Clinic Operations & Communication Support patient scheduling and intake workflows as needed Verify demographics and insurance information Obtain outside medical records, lab results, and imaging reports Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, providers, and staff Competency & Onboarding Experienced Medical Assistants are expected to demonstrate competency across core clinical skills.
