Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated Certified Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team working with the United States Coast Guard. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive support across various clinical settings, including outpatient clinics, hospital medicine units, and specialized departments such as dermatology, emergency medicine, and geriatrics. This role involves direct patient care, administrative support, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality service delivery. The successful applicant will contribute to a dynamic environment focused on patient-centered care, utilizing their medical knowledge and technical skills to enhance patient outcomes. Duties Perform patient intake procedures, including collecting medical histories and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature. Assist healthcare providers with clinical tasks such as administering medications, drawing X-rays, and supporting procedures in outpatient and inpatient settings. Support documentation processes by accurately entering data into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and coding diagnoses using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) standards. Prepare patients for examinations or procedures in various specialties including dermatology, internal medicine, or surgical units. Manage medical administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and handling patient inquiries professionally. Support emergency medicine teams by assisting with urgent care procedures and providing basic life support (BLS) when necessary. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment while adhering to safety protocols in Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers. Assist with specimen collection, medication administration, and basic physiology or anatomy-related assessments. Collaborate effectively with hospital staff in inpatient units like the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) or Geriatrics wards to ensure seamless patient care. Requirements Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited program; current BLS certification required. Prior experience in hospital medicine, outpatient clinics, or specialty areas such as dermatology or emergency medicine. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding, and medication administration protocols. Experience working with EHR systems and familiarity with hospital environments including Level I or Level II trauma centers. Strong patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically across diverse populations. Ability to perform clinical duties such as vital signs collection, intake assessments, and assisting with X-ray procedures. Previous experience in medical-surgical units or internal medicine settings is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments like urgent care or hospital inpatient units. Knowledge of medical procedures related to geriatrics, pediatrics (PICU), or OR (Operating Room) settings is advantageous.
