Pay:
  • Summary:
  • The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients at Community Health Centers of the Central Coast (CHCCC) under the supervision of the Health Center Manager and Clinic Services Supervisor.
The MA performs non-professional clinical duties, operates medical equipment, assists with patient care, and supports the team with clerical duties to ensure efficient workflow and operations.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Actively participates in assigned Patient Care Team duties and activities.
Provides quality customer service following AIDET Standards. Administers medications as per Provider's orders, consulting with the Provider/RN if unfamiliar with a medication. Performs intake of vitals and determines the need for immunizations, lead screening, and other health maintenance recommendations. Conducts CLIA Waived laboratory tests following manufacturer instructions. Assists with referral and tracking for routine visits, ancillary services, and external providers. Greets patients, escorts them to examination rooms, and minimizes wait times. Provides comfort and encouragement to anxious patients. Maintains clean and safe patient areas, following safety procedures. Ensures proper documentation in electronic medical records. Acts as an interpreter between patients and providers as needed. Cleans and disinfects instruments following guidelines. Answers telephones, completes tasks, and assists patients with needs. Attends meetings and trainings as required. Demonstrates adherence to safety policies, infection control, and care appropriate for different age groups. Displays cultural sensitivity and maintains confidentiality. Promotes health care integration and the Patient Centered Medical Home principles.
  • Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting school or CMA/RMA certification through a California Medical Board-approved organization. Minimum one year of recent medical assisting experience preferred. EKG, vital signs, venipuncture, and injections experience preferred. Bilingual in English and another language is desirable.
  • Skills:
  • Strong customer service and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Strong mathematical and reasoning abilities. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Capacity to handle a high volume of patients and adapt to changes effectively.
  • Certificates and Licenses:
  • Certification/registration (CMA/RMA) through a California Medical Board-approved organization required. Valid California Driver's License (Class C) and CPR (BLS-C) certification required. Must pass criminal background check and drug screen upon hire. Compliance with health screening and vaccination requirements.
  • Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds. Good eyesight and manual dexterity required. Comfortable with standing, walking, and using proper body mechanics during patient care. Specific vision abilities are necessary.
  • Work Environment:
  • Fast-paced environment with moderate noise levels.
Flexibility in work schedule, including evenings/weekends and travel as needed.
