  • $30 an hour 19 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Flexible spending account Paid time off Vision insurance Employee discount Life insurance Qualifications Safe work practices Teamwork Report writing Basic math Administrative experience Cleaning Associate's degree Full Job Description The primary role of a Pathology Assistant in Anatomic Pathology is to receive and handle all specimens prior to gross examination, perform gross dissection of select biopsy specimens in compliance with all regulatory bodies, and maintain a clean, safe, and efficient laboratory.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain the daily flow of work through the Surgical Pathology Laboratory (Grossing Room). Monitors infection control and universal precautions adherence by all persons who enter the Grossing Room. Assures timely transport of (1) specimens from the clinical service areas to the lab, and (2) slides from the lab to the pathologists' office. Accurately receive, accession, and organize specimens according to company procedures with particular focus on specimen identification. Assures proper fixation and storage of specimens upon receipt into the laboratory including but not limited to refrigeration, freezing, decalcification and formalin. Identifies cases which require special handling and/or immediate attention or consult with staff pathologist or pathologist assistant. Assists in the preparation of cytology specimens. Assists in the preparation and performance of surgical specimen dissection by: oVerifying proper specimen identification. oObtaining pertinent clinical information. oDescribing gross anatomic features.oDissecting surgical specimens. Perform some histology processes, including but not limited to tissue embedding. Perform all administrative functions of the lab, including but not limited to, answering telephone calls, handling correspondence to/from the pathologists' office, and handing material send-out requests. Maintain the integrity of tissue specimens, paraffin blocks, and glass slides, and prepare items for discard after their appropriate retention periods. Periodic procedure review to assure comprehension and compliance of all operational, quality, and safety practices. Participate in all mandatory on-going educational requirements . Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education and/or Experience Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College in a life science field. Must have 60 semester hours including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 hours of science courses (6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology, or any combination). Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Hours Monday-Friday 08:30-05:00 ish
