September 21, 2026 About Us Nervio Pain Institute ("Nervio") is a growing private Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) practice based in Ventura, CA, led by Dr. Nicholas Peterson. We specialize in treating patients with chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions, with a strong focus on providing compassionate, high-quality care. Position Overview We are seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish) Medical Assistant who is motivated, patient-focused, and excited to be part of a collaborative, growing practice. This role is primarily based in Ventura, with potential travel to our Santa Barbara clinic a few days per month. This is a dynamic, dual-role position that blends clinical (back-office) and administrative (front-office) responsibilities. You will work closely with the physician and team to ensure smooth clinic operations while delivering an exceptional patient experience. Key Responsibilities Patient Interaction & Front Office Serve as a primary point of contact for patients (in person and by phone) Schedule, confirm, and manage appointments Manage patient check-in and check-out processes Provide warm, professional, and compassionate communication Care Coordination Submit and track referrals, imaging, and diagnostic orders Assist with prior authorizations and prescriptions Communicate with outside providers, pharmacies, and imaging centers Ensure completion and documentation of all orders Administrative & Billing Support Verify insurance and update patient records Collect copays and patient balances when applicable Assist with basic billing tasks (e.g., claim follow-up, payment posting) as needed Support general administrative tasks and special projects Clinical & Patient Care Support Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use Prepare patients for exams, including taking vital signs and documenting medical history Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records Assist physician with procedures and treatments as needed Provide Spanish interpretation for patients as needed Team Collaboration Work closely with the physician and team Support overall clinic operations and workflow Step in where needed to maintain efficiency and patient care quality Qualifications Required Fluency in English and Spanish High school diploma or equivalent Minimum 6 months of Medical Assistant experience Current CPR/BLS certification or plans to obtain before start date Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time management Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment Comfortable using EHR systems and basic computer applications Preferred (Not Required) Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (CAAHEP, ABHES, etc.) National certification (CMA, NCCT, AMT) Experience with referrals, authorizations, or insurance workflows Familiarity with billing or revenue cycle processes Key Traits We Value Self-motivated with a strong work ethic Adaptable and eager to learn Compassionate and patient-centered Reliable and detail-oriented Professional and polished communication style Team-oriented with a positive attitude Schedule & Compensation Full-time, in-person Based primarily in Ventura with potential travel to Santa Barbara a few days/month Starting salary: $45-52,000/year Optional health, dental, and vision benefits (partial employer contribution) Opportunities for growth as the practice expands Why Join Nervio?
