Job Description

Job Location:
We are currently located in Coral Gables, Florida 33146, but we will be relocating to a new location by the end of 2026. That location will be in Miramar, Florida, 33025.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pathology Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. The Pathology Assistant (PA), certified by the American Association of Pathologists' Assistants or the American Society for Clinical Pathology, works under the supervision of qualified pathologists and is qualified as high-complexity testing personnel under the CLIA regulations. The Pathology Assistant collaborates closely with the Pathologists, Accessioning, and Histology teams.
Job Responsibilities:
A. Preparation and performance of surgical specimen dissection 1. Ensure complete and accurate specimen identification. 2. Record clear and accurate descriptions of tissue samples, including dissection as appropriate, and using ink to identify surgical resection margins. 3. Exercise excellent judgment in seeking consultation with a Pathologist regarding specimens. 4. When appropriate, photograph specimens or findings. 5. Adhere to best practices for all aspects of duties, including cleanliness to avoid contamination, maintenance of equipment, personal safety, QC, QA, documentation and specimen storage. B. Additional Responsibilities 1. Support and oversee additional non-PA grossing personnel (ie histologists performing grossing). 2. Be knowledgeable and proficient in LIMS as it pertains to grossing. 3. Collaborate with Accessioning, Histology, and the Pathologists to maintain best practices from specimen entry to final reporting.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology. Or a Bachelor's degree must include a minimum of 60 semester hours or equivalent, which includes either: o 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses OR o 24 semester hours - 6 chemistry, 6 biology, and 12 chemistry, biology, and medical laboratory technology in any combination. Minimum Associate's Degree with five years of Grossing experience in human tissues.
Work Experience:
    Minimum:
    Three years of experience in grossing specimens in a Histology laboratory.
      Preferred:
      Five years' experience performing gross dissection and dictation of surgical biopsy specimens. Licenses & Certifications
      • Pathologist's Assistant License, or Histotechnologist, American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
      Certified Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
      • Communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills to effectively interact with staff and Pathologists.
      • Knowledge of current laboratory principles and procedures used in gross tissue examination.
      • Extensive knowledge of advanced laboratory theory, technique, and testing related to anatomic pathology.
      • Knowledge of group process techniques and team leadership used in meetings and on project teams.
      • Knowledge of quality control, quality assurance, and record-keeping procedures which constitute good laboratory practice, and which comply with regulations imposed by College of American Pathologists and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments
      • Knowledge of standard laboratory safety procedures.
      • Effective team skills and interpersonal skills.
      Equipment:
      Computers, computer programs, information systems, scanners, forceps, rulers, tissue dyes, scalpel or razor blades, microtomes, cryostats, water baths, slide racks, tissue processors, drying ovens, automatic strainers, cover slips, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
      Environmental Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
      Laboratory/Office work environment with exposure to various chemicals and equipment. Prolonged sitting, frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Safety equipment and personal protective equipment are provided and required. Requires a normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office and laboratory equipment. On-call status after normal operating hours. Some travel required (conferences, client/prospective client visits).
      Laboratory Setting:
      exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, blood-borne pathogens, chemical hazards, and sharp instruments.

Medium - information access is specific to an individual's demographics and service information (type of service, services received, dates of service, and provider of service). 3. High - information access is detailed and sensitive to an individual's demographics, service information, and personal medical history (past/present medical conditions, specifics of medical diagnosis or tests, treatment plans, and family history).       $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
