Job Title:
Medical Assistant Job Description This role supports a busy urgent care and primary care clinic by providing high-quality clinical and administrative assistance to patients and providers. The medical assistant collects patient information, performs basic clinical tasks, and helps ensure smooth patient flow in a fast-paced environment while delivering compassionate and professional patient care. Responsibilities Perform medical assistant duties in an urgent care and primary care clinic, supporting providers and ensuring efficient patient flow. Collect and accurately document patient demographics and other registration information in the electronic medical record. Triage patients based on their symptoms, urgency, and clinical presentation, following clinic protocols. Obtain and record vital signs, including blood pressure and other routine measurements, in the electronic health record. Assist with patient care activities such as preparing patients for exams, supporting procedures, and providing patient education as directed. Perform phlebotomy and other basic clinical tasks within scope of practice and clinic guidelines. Verify insurance information and assist with insurance-related documentation as needed. Schedule and manage patient appointments, including follow-up visits, using the clinic's scheduling systems. Support front desk operations, including check-in and check-out, and provide courteous customer service to all patients and visitors. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records and electronic health records (EMR/EHR). Use medical terminology correctly when documenting and communicating with clinical staff. Collaborate with healthcare team members to provide coordinated, patient-centered care in a fast-paced clinic environment. Follow clinic policies and procedures related to safety, confidentiality, and quality standards. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience working in a fast-paced clinic setting. Experience performing medical assistant duties in a clinical environment, preferably urgent care or primary care. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and electronic health records (EHR). Ability to collect and document patient demographics accurately. Skill in obtaining and recording vital signs, including blood pressure. Experience with appointment scheduling and managing patient flow. Knowledge of medical terminology and basic medical assisting practices. Strong customer service skills and ability to interact professionally with patients and families. Ability to perform basic patient care tasks and support patient education under provider guidance. Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge or willingness to obtain as required by the clinic. Ability to work effectively in a healthcare team and adapt to a high-volume environment. Work Environment This position is fully onsite in a primary care clinic that also supports urgent care needs, typically seeing between 20 and 30 patients per day. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment that relies on electronic medical records and standard clinical equipment. The clinic offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, holiday pay, and paid time off (PTO) that accrues over hours worked. Upon conversion to a permanent role, team members are eligible for additional benefits such as 9 paid holidays and 15 days of PTO, performance-based pay increases, and recognition programs that may include PTO tokens redeemable for additional paid time off. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jacksonville, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
