Job Description

Overview:
The Medical Assistant will provide clinical and administrative support to providers in both office and field settings. Responsibilities include patient intake, obtaining vital signs, updating medical records, preparing patients for visits, assisting with documentation, and scribing provider notes. When not traveling with providers, the Medical Assistant will work in the office performing medical scribe duties for Primary Care, Wound Care, and Psychiatry services.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Perform clinical intake of patients, including taking and recording vital signs. Update patient medical, surgical, and family histories, medications, and allergies. Document patient visit information accurately and completely in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record). Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, and exam preparation. Assist with routine patient skin checks Ensure the comfort and well-being of patients while maintaining a positive, supportive environment. Assist the provider with patient communication and follow-up calls. Assist with scribing during patient visits, ensuring accurate and real-time documentation. Travel with providers to provide clinical support off-site as needed. Provide back-up support to clinical and administrative teams when not traveling.
Clinical Documentation & Scribing:
Perform scribe duties for providers (Primary Care, Wound Care, and Psychiatry) by accurately transcribing and documenting patient encounters, medical histories, physical exams, assessments, and treatment plans in the EMR. Review and scrub provider notes for:
  • HPI (History of Present Illness), assessments, and treatment plans
  • Duplicate or inappropriate content, grammatical errors, and incorrect medical terminology
  • Missing or incorrect treatment codes to ensure compliance with billing requirements Ensure all clinical documentation meets compliance standards and supports accurate coding and reimbursement.
Adhere to clinic policies and procedures. Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in handling patient health information (PHI). Collaborate with providers, schedulers and billing staff for clarifications or corrections when needed. Assist healthcare professionals with medical charting and documentation Perform additional administrative tasks assigned to support team operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. 2 years of clinical experience required. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacology. Strong knowledge of computerized information systems (EMR) used in business and clinical management settings. Demonstrate the skills and ability necessary to document patient care as dictated by the Provider. Strong commitment to Customer Service and Excellence in healthcare. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
