Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant will perform clinical and administrative duties under the direction of the physician, and nurse practitioner. The Certified Medical Assistant's primary responsibilities include all the actions required during the visit to ensure the efficient and effective patient flow, visit satisfaction, and of proper documentation. He/she will provide extraordinary customer service to all internal and external customers (including patients and other team members) at all times.
DUTIES:
Patient Intake:
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare patients for the physician. Interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight and height. Obtain medication information (name, dosage and duration) Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records. Prepare patient for exam (gown, drape, procedure)
Patient Exam:
Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing the physician instruments and materials. Perform such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures. Assist provider during exam, patient position or procedure and testing. Provide patient education at provider's request.
Patient Discharge:
Upon completion of medical exam by provider, explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients. Ensure accuracy of medications provided to patients. Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies. Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
Other responsibilities may include:
Collecting, receiving and processing patient lab specimens Scheduling patient appointments Maintaining medical records for insurance purposes Administering medication directed by the physician
QUALIFICATIONS
3-5 years of employment as a Medical Assistant (recent clinical experience). Certification from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program such as AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NAHP or ARMA. Experience working with geriatric patients. EMR system experience; eClinicalWorks preferred. High School Diploma or
GED. REQUIRED SKILLS OR LICENSES
Taking vitals, labs, EKG, intake, administer medicine Knowledge of Medical products, services, standards, policies and procedures. Skill in operating phones, personal computer, software and other IT systems. Skill in oral communication (English required). Ability to communicate and work with doctors, patients and others in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to pay close attention to detail and to ensure accuracy of reports and data.
