Job Description

Primary Duties:
JOB TITLE
Medical Assistant
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician, interviews patients, measures vital signs and records information on patients charts and prepares treatment room for examination of patients. Travel required.

Reports directly to the Practice Manager

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
(This list may not include all of the duties assigned) 1. Perform patient intake in clinic setting a.
Intake includes:
i. Manual BP, pulse, respirations, etc. ii. Height and Weight iii. Medication reconciliation with knowledge of 1. Brand and generic name 2. Diagnoses treated by medication 3. Usual dosage and route 4.
Usual duration of therapy:
acute, chronic, PRN iv. Assessment of pain level v. Accurate collection of conservative treatment history vi. Accurate collection of diagnoses, medical history, family medical history, surgical history, etc. vii. Uploading diagnostic imaging studies from disc 2. Assist physicians with injections, including the preparation of injections following sterile procedure 3. Assist physicians with the application and removal of splints and casts 4. Assist physicians with wound care including the undressing and redressing of surgical wound sites, staple and suture removal, minor in-clinic procedures 5. Performs extensive pre-visit planning for clinic visits 6. Utilizes the electronic medical record system for patient charting by a. Entering patient demographics, medications, vitals, surgical history, family history, allergies, etc. b. Reviewing and reconciling medications electronically c. Entering and processing electronic orders for imaging, diagnostic studies, procedures, surgeries, etc. d. Entering and processing RXs electronically e. Creating and closing the loop on outgoing referral orders f. Entering MIPS clinical patient data for quality measures g. Reviewing and processing incoming clinical documents h. Utilizing a patient portal for communication and document sharing 7. Complete patient forms, including but not limited to; FMLA, STD, Workers compensation status, assistive devices, DME, etc. 8. Performs scheduling duties for clinic visits, procedures and surgeries 9. Performs precertification procedures for in-clinic procedures 10. Handles phone calls, patient complaints, medications, etc. 11. Upload, label and route hospital operation/surgical notes and dictation, and communicates with billing team effectively 12. Preparing surgery documents including completion of the history and physical and consent forms 13. Sanitizing all patient care areas between patients and the end of clinics 14. Inventorying and stocking patient exam rooms 15. Schedule depositions and physician meetings when needed 16. Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION
1. High School Diploma 2. Medical Assistant Certificate (preferred but not required)
