A Medical Assistant assists physicians and other medical specialists with routine administrative or clinical tasks. Organizes patient records, schedules appointments, and prepares medical equipment. May specialize in administrative or clinical work, or specialize in a particular area of medicine, i.e. assisting in the office of an ophthalmologist (eye specialist). Works in medical offices.
Christie Clinic's department of Pain & Rehabilitation in Danville is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant from Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm, with no night or weekend requirements. Duties include the performance of skills through the delivery of patient care using a systematic patient assessment.
JOB DUTIES
(This list may not include all the duties assigned.) Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments prior to appointment. Clean and restock following appointment. Escort and assist patient to exam room, take vitals, weight, and height of patient according to physician's needs. Prepare and update the electronic medical record for patient visit needs. Maintain and update patient medical record upon visit including allergies, medications, etc. and enter into electronic medical record. Flag appropriate room for provider to see patient. Assist as requested with procedures during appointment including as indicated patient positioning, site prep, draping and C-Arm usage. Establish and maintain sterile fields. Review online transcriptions prior to patient appointment and update during appointment, as necessary. Assists with obtaining prior authorizations/necessary paperwork for patients such as: FMLA forms/Disability forms. Answer phones and schedule labs, tests, and appointments as needed. Obtain prior authorizations for procedures, medications, testing, etc. Order and maintain relevant office supplies for department effectiveness. Perform related work as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous health care experience Certified Nurse Assistant Certificate and/or graduation from an accredited program for medical assistants.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 75 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required. Must perform all necessary duties while intermittently wearing lead apron and lead collar (during C-arm radiologic services.)
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a clinical setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous waste, bodily fluids, and other waste common to a health care environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.
