Job Description
Yorktown Health is seeking an experienced Float Medical Assistant with at least 4 years of medical office experience to provide coverage between our Lombard and Lisle locations. This is a highly versatile position for an experienced Medical Assistant who is comfortable working both clinically and at the front desk and can quickly adapt to different providers, offices, and daily staffing needs. This is not an entry-level position. We need someone who can step into an office, understand what needs to be done, and contribute with minimal supervision. Minimum Requirements 4+ years of Medical Assistant or comparable outpatient medical office experience required Previous experience working directly with physicians or advanced practice providers Strong hands-on Medical Assistant skills Experience with front desk operations in a medical office Reliable transportation and ability to work at both Lombard and Lisle locations Experience using an EHR/EMR system Strong knowledge of medical terminology Strong patient communication and customer service skills Ability to adapt quickly to different providers and workflows Ability to independently prioritize responsibilities Dependable attendance and strong work ethic Applicants without at least 4 years of applicable medical office experience will not be considered. Clinical Responsibilities Room patients and obtain accurate vital signs Review and update medications, allergies, medical history, and reason for visit Prepare patients for examinations and procedures Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during visits Perform point-of-care testing and basic clinical procedures within training and scope Administer injections and vaccinations when appropriate Collect and process specimens Manage patient messages and clinical follow-up Process medication refill requests according to provider protocols Assist with referrals and prior authorizations Prepare, clean, and stock examination rooms Maintain appropriate clinical supplies Accurately document within the electronic health record Help providers maintain efficient patient flow Front Desk Responsibilities Check patients in and out Answer incoming patient phone calls Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments Verify demographics and insurance information Collect copays and outstanding patient balances Route patient messages to providers and clinical staff Assist with referral and medical record requests Provide front desk coverage during staffing shortages, lunches, PTO, or increased patient volume Float Responsibilities Provide coverage at both Yorktown Health Lombard and Yorktown Health Lisle Support different physicians and advanced practice providers as assigned Cover both Medical Assistant and front desk responsibilities depending on office needs Quickly learn and follow workflows at both locations Help provide consistent patient service and clinical standards across Yorktown Health offices Step into staffing gaps and help maintain patient flow during busy periods Who Will Be Successful in This Role? This position is designed for someone with significant medical office experience who enjoys variety and does not need every day to look the same. A strong candidate can walk into either office, assess what needs attention, and get to work. You should be equally comfortable saying: "I can room the next patient." "I'll cover the front desk." "I'll call that patient back." "I'll help the provider with that procedure." "I'll take care of that referral." We want someone who sees themselves as part of the entire practice team , rather than someone who will only perform one specific set of duties.
