Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of a physician, prepares patient for exam or procedure. Communicates effectively with clients and clinic staff with regard to education, treatment and client concerns. Schedules all tests and surgeries. Ages served range from newborn to geriatric.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Prepares patient for any procedures and assists with the procedures/treatments as needed and within the scope of their experience and licensure. 2. Obtains, monitors, accurately records, and reports vital signs, height and weight, patients clinical history, and reason for visit. 3. Provides age specific education/information to patient and family members. 4. Assists with procedures when necessary, including surgical preparation and set-up. 5. Gives injection requested by physician. 6. Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the scope of license and under the supervision of the physician. 7. Documents in the clinic record (Chief Complaint, vitals, past medical history, medications, pharmacy, allergies, height, weight, smoking status, cessation offered if a smoker, fall risks, depression screenings and any other quality measures that are required by our organization 8. Obtains pre-certification from patient's insurance company for procedures as directed. 9. Schedules tests, procedures and admissions outside the Clinic as directed by the physician. 10. Maintains log of pharmaceutical drug samples. 11. Cleans and stocks patient exam rooms throughout the day. 12. Cleans patient exam rooms, lab areas, and utility room thoroughly at the end of each day. 13. Cleans, sterilizes, and restocks instruments and supplies. 14. Answers patient questions as necessary and appropriate. 15. Provides follow-up and returns patient calls. Mails letters with test results to patients when unable to reach by phone. 16. Maintains inventory of medical supplies. 17. Orders patient care supplies and drug samples. 18. Documents in the clinic record (Chief Complaint, vitals, past medical history, medications, pharmacy, allergies, height, weight, smoking status, cessation offered if a smoker, fall risks, depression screenings and any other quality measures that are required by our organization 19. Demonstrates competency in skills verified by Skills Check List. 20. Follows all MCH policies and procedures. 21. Operates as a team with other Clinical Nursing staff with the potential to float intermittently to help other departments due to high demand for coverage needed in other clinic areas. 22. Demonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of MCH. 23. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program. Current CMA Certification from one of the following is required: CMA "Certified Medical Assistant" (American Association of Medical Assistants) (AAMA) RMA "Registered Medical Assistant" (American Medical Technologists) NCMA "National Certified Medical Assistant" (NCCT) Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring. Must be able to demonstrate strong computer skills, including the use of electronic health records, basic computer skills in a Windows environment and able to navigate any other websites or programs required. Must be able to demonstrate and apply knowledge of medical terminology, high proficiency of general medical office procedures including HIPAA regulations. Must be BLS certified.
