Job Description

Gene Cheng, MD is a fast-paced, patient-centered independent practice dedicated to providing high-quality care to our community in Augusta. We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our clinical team and help ensure the seamless daily operation of our practice. MA certification is preferred but not required. CNA's are encouraged to apply. Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide clinical as well as administrative support within a small, independent medical practice setting, ensuring smooth operations and excellent patient service, acting as a primary liaison between our patients, Dr. Cheng, and other hospital networks. This role requires proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems, medical terminology, and taking vital signs along with strong communication skills and knowledge of healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties:
Prepare patients for examination, including verifying medical histories and confirming the purpose of their visit. Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, weight, and temperature. Assist Dr. Cheng with minor procedures and in-office treatments. Administer injections/medications as directed. Manage clinical inventory, and restock exam rooms.
Administrative Duties:
Update and maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) and patient charts. Answer patient calls, triage needs appropriately, and assist front desk receptionist with checkin-checkout protocols. Prescriptions -via the electronic medical records system, calling the pharmacy, or faxing the prescription to the pharmacy. Communicate lab results, testing results or instructions authorized by the provider. Filing paper charts and faxing documents. Scanning medical records into the electronic medical records system.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
High School diploma or GED required. Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred but not required. Certified Nursing Assistants are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of clinical or managed care experience strongly preferred but not required
Skills:
Proficiency with EHR systems, knowledge of medical terminology, and excellent time management skills are required.
Soft Skills:
High emotional intelligence, strong verbal/written communication, and demonstrated empathy and compassion toward patients.
Shift availability:
40 hours per week. Staff hours are Monday-Thursday 7:30am - 5pm (most days out by 4:30) and Friday 8am - 2:30pm, typically. The medical assistant works until the provider is finished for the day, hours will vary slightly from day to day. Overtime will occur occassionally. Ability to
