Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming experience while efficiently managing administrative tasks and the occasional front desk tasks. Your expertise in medical office operations, EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems, and patient service will help streamline clinic workflows and support quality care delivery. Duties Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing excellent customer service and guiding them through check-in procedures Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and handle insurance verification processes Schedule appointments accurately utilizing medical scheduling software and coordinate with providers to optimize clinic flow Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette, addressing patient inquiries and redirecting calls as needed Maintain and update patient records within EMR systems such as eClinicalWorks or Health Information Management platforms while ensuring HIPAA compliance Review documentation for accuracy, including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, and care plans to support billing and medical coding processes Assist with filing, data entry, and general clerical tasks such as typing reports, managing medical records, and organizing paperwork efficiently Support billing processes by collecting payments, processing medical collections, and verifying insurance benefits for Medicare or other providers Taking vitals and rooming patients Charting medical history for the providers when needed Updating patient medications and allergies Experience Prior experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting is required; clinic or dental office experience is highly preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix or Eaglesoft Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical billing procedures Familiarity with health information management standards including HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), typing (10-key), and familiarity with office management software like Eaglesoft or Dentrix Ability to perform clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, conducting intake assessments, X-ray support, and assisting in inpatient or outpatient settings. Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally and compassionately Office management experience involving appointment scheduling, insurance verification, filing systems, and administrative support Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environment, maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
