Practice Coordinator
OVERALL POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Medical Assistant plays a pivotal role in providing administrative and clinical support to healthcare professionals in a medical setting. They contribute to the efficient operation of the facility while ensuring patients receive quality care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepare examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness and stocking supplies.
  • Escort patients to the examination rooms and assist with seating and comfort.
  • Record patient medical history, including allergies and current medications.
  • Measure and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate.
  • Assist healthcare providers during examinations and minor procedures.
  • Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and equipment.
  • Collect and label specimens for laboratory testing, such as blood, urine, or cultures.
  • Ensure proper handling and transportation of specimens.
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by a healthcare provider.
  • Educate patients on medication use, dosage, and potential side effects.
  • Provide patients with instructions on post-care, procedures, and follow-up appointments.
  • Offer health education materials and resources.
  • Schedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures.
  • Verify and update patient demographic information.
  • Maintain electronic health records (EHR) and ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Organize and file medical documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Greet and check in patients, providing them with necessary forms and information.
  • Answer phones, handle patient inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate staff.
  • Monitor and maintain medical supplies, ordering stock as needed.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary equipment and instruments.
  • Adhere to healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Follow infection control protocols and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Vaccine reporting and inventory
  • CLIA waived point of care testing like hbA1C, COVID, and Flu
  • Diabetic Retinopathy screenings
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma required . Post-secondary education in a related field preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is preferred. . Experience with Athena required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a strong commitment to patient care.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and office software (e.
g., EHR systems).
